The 10th Annual Amherst Island Pursuit Race will run in conjunction with the 14th anniversary of the Thomson Jemmett Vogelzang - Easter Seals Regatta which has been deemed one of the most successful in Canada from its initiation in 1997. This local event has raised to-date in excess of $5,000,000. The goal for the 2010 event is $32,000. An influential part of the national regatta series organized by Easter Seals Ontario, the Kingston event is completely run and organized by local volunteers.

For the forth consecutive year, the Amherst Island Pursuit Race will be run in conjunction with the Kingston Easter Seals Regatta.

About Last Year

The 9th annual race attracted 31 registered boats, in 3 divisions who, as usual, had the choice of rounding Amherst Island to the west or to the east. This decision split the fleet, and while the Westbound boats thought they had the Eastbounds licked, as they made their way towards the finish line, the Eastbounds tore through the Lower Gap and steamed downwind under spinnakers to snatch the first 8 finishes! Once again, our successful regatta owes a huge debt of gratitude to our wonderful Race Committee volunteer Barry Elvidge who donated his time and his boat for the whole weekend - thanks Barry!

All of the proceeds from this year's registration, pledges, sponsorships, auctions, clothing sales, dinner and dance tickets were donated to the Easter Seals Society and we are happy to report that $30,000 was raised to support Kingston Area children with disabilities. Thank you to everyone that made the 2009 event such a huge success.
